GW Rule #36

Artificers & persons of low degree ought not to use many ceremonies to lords or others of high degree but respect and highly honor them, and those of high degree ought to treat them with affability & courtesy, without arrogance.

PEEVES

People who attend special events should respect those being honored.  And the honorees should be polite without attitude.

MADAMA

In Washington’s day, an artificer was a military mechanic or worker.  Military hierarchy was central to his everyday world.

SANDRA

As a slave owner, one would have hoped he would have afforded the same respect to the over 300.  We are still struggling to acknowledge that all people deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect.  Becoming aware of acts of civility in everyday circumstances move us in that direction beyond power and hierarchy.
